Job Title: Guidance and Support Specialist

The role of the Guidance and Support Specialist is to provide critical support to students in need, working closely with teachers, wellbeing staff, and families.

  • Assess student needs and develop individualised plans to support their emotional and social wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with teachers and wellbeing staff to deliver evidence-based counselling services and interventions.
  • Support the development of whole-school wellbeing programs and initiatives to promote positive mental health and wellbeing.

This involves:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing short-term, solution-focused counselling to students experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges.
  • Conducting assessments to identify student needs and developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans as necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records in line with relevant guidelines and policies.

Additionally, the Guidance and Support Specialist will:

Work Collaboratively:
  • With teachers and wellbeing staff to support student engagement, attendance, and mental health.
  • Participate in Student Support Group (SSG) meetings and contribute to Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) planning processes.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of mental health and wellbeing among staff, students, and the school community.

The ideal candidate will possess:

Essential Qualifications and Skills:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, counselling, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience providing counselling or mental health support to young people.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
