Job Overview


We are seeking an experienced Producer to join our team in Cairns, Queensland. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for creating engaging stories across multiple platforms and presenting local programs as required.



About the Role

  • Develop and produce compelling content: Prepare distinctive and engaging audio and cross-platform content that captivates local audiences, including Q&As, packages, scripts, interviews, and breaking news.
  • Presentation and on-air duties: Present local programs as needed, providing excellent presentation skills and a strong on-air presence.
  • In-studio production support: Offer in-studio production assistance and manage talk-back callers and guests with ease.
  • Local content creation: Develop local content that can be shared with other content teams across the ABC, increasing audience engagement and driving results.
  • Cross-promotion: Collaborate with other ABC teams to cross-promote content, boosting audience reach and engagement.


About You

We are looking for a skilled and experienced producer who is passionate about creating high-quality content that resonates with diverse audiences. If you have a proven track record in program making and a willingness to work collaboratively as part of our team, we encourage you to apply.



  • Achieved producing experience: Possess significant producing experience and presentation skills, with a strong ability to develop and deliver original and engaging content.
  • Editorial skills: Demonstrate accomplished editorial skills, including information sourcing and analysis, sound judgment, and the ability to exercise these skills effectively.
  • Cultural and linguistic understanding: Show a demonstrated understanding and passion for sourcing and creating authentic content representing the broad diversity of the Australian community, including Indigenous communities when relevant.
  • Licenses and flexibility: Hold a current and valid Driver's Licence and be willing to travel to various locations as required.
