About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Computational Biologist to join our team at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. As a key member of our Data Science Platform, you will collaborate with researchers and clinicians to apply and develop computational methods for analysing and interpreting complex biomedical data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement computational workflows for genomics studies, including quality control, unsupervised and supervised analyses, and biological interpretation.
  • Prepare high-quality figures for publication and contribute to manuscript writing.
  • Develop and maintain modular and reusable workflows using container and workflow management technologies.
  • Stay up-to-date with advances in computational methods, genomics, and biological domain expertise.
  • Contribute to training programs through designing and running workshops, mentoring, and technical supervision.
Requirements
  • PhD degree in a related area of science or engineering.
  • Strong statistical knowledge and programming skills, with experience in at least one scripting language (R, Python).
  • Good knowledge of biology and previous experience analysing and interpreting genomics data.
  • Publications commensurate with experience.
  • Comfortable working with Unix and in an HPC environment.
  • Familiar with software containers, workflow management systems, databases, and cloud computing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
