We are seeking a skilled and experienced Grounds Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the State Government of Victoria, Australia. As a key member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for maintaining the school's buildings and grounds to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain school buildings and grounds, including rubbish and recycling, to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.
- Safely operate machinery and equipment as required for this position, adhering to OH&S guidelines and procedures.
- Perform minor cleaning and maintenance of equipment, ensuring storage areas are clean, safe, and orderly.
- Carry out regular visual inspections of roofs, roof guttering, drains, toilets, sinks, and troughs to identify and rectify problems.
- Mow grounds using hand mowers where applicable, and apply chemicals as necessary for weed and insect control.
- Perform other minor repairs, such as new locks, minor plumbing, and carpentry, as directed by the Principal.
- Ensure the physical environment of the school, its buildings, and grounds are maintained and rectification of OH&S hazards.
- Experience in grounds maintenance and facilities management, preferably in an educational setting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on safety and quality.
- Basic knowledge of carpentry, building, and renovation skills, with the ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Ability to operate machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, students, and external contractors.
This is a part-time position, with a fixed term contract. The successful applicant will be required to work a regular schedule, with occasional overtime as needed. The position involves working in a school environment, with exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
Selection Criteria- Demonstrated capacity to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including staff, students, and external contractors.
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage and maintain grounds and gardens, with a focus on safety and quality.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and learning/training.
- Demonstrated ability to use standard computer operating systems and software to maintain data and compliance documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to act as Liaison for hire of facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to change.
