About this Role

This position is for an Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer who will provide supportive contact to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, their families, and health professionals across the region.

The role involves providing face-to-face assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families attending treatment services as required.

As a key member of the team, you will play a crucial part in improving healthcare services and providers' cultural sensitivity to Indigenous Australians' needs.

Culturally Safe Care

Providing culturally safe care is essential to deliver effective healthcare to Indigenous Australians.

This includes understanding and respecting Indigenous Australians' beliefs and values.

This role supports the provision of culturally appropriate care to male Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients within the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide supportive contact to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, their families, and health professionals.
  • Develop and maintain communications with Aboriginal communities, other hospital staff, mainstream agencies, and government departments.
  • Assist in developing strategies and guidelines for programs that improve access to mainstream services by the Aboriginal community.
  • Capture and work with statistical data and information, particularly patient statistics.
Requirements
  • Be eligible for AHPRA registration as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health practitioner.
  • Hold a Certificate 4 in Aboriginal Primary Health Care, Health Work (or equivalent) through an accredited education provider.
  • Have a current driver's license.
