Support Volunteer Opportunities

Our organisation is seeking a valued volunteer to support our staff in recreational activities for frail, aged and older people with a disability.

  • Provide support to staff in maintaining independence and emotional wellbeing of residents.
  • Promote a holistic approach to care and foster high standards of accountability, honesty and integrity.

As a Support Volunteer, your role will involve:

  • Practising good hand hygiene and social distancing where possible.
  • Responding to staff requests and having a can-do attitude.
  • Being engaging and friendly to residents.
  • Facilitating activities such as bingo, whiteboard games, floor activities, men's groups, card games, reading, craft, life history, outings, conversation, companionship.
  • Keeping residents engaged in group settings or one-on-one.
  • Following infection control guidelines (supplied by management).
  • Putting the needs of others first and respecting their choices, including saying 'No'.
  • Being pleasant to others and mindful around areas of aging and independence.

Preferred attributes include:

  • Experience in supporting seniors (preferable but not necessary).
  • A sense of humour.
  • Being a 'people person' who can engage well with others.
  • Enjoying facilitating groups and 1:1 activities.
  • Having a friendly disposition with a high level of patience and tolerance.
