About this role:

The Senior Medical Advisor will support the Defence Force Recruiting Chief Medical Officer by providing expert advice and guidance on recruiting medical policies and procedures.

This role works closely with stakeholders to deliver on recruiting objectives outlined in the National Defence Strategy, Defence Workforce Strategy, and the Integrated Investment Plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and expert medical judgement to actualise the medical recruiting aspects of the Defence mission.
  • Lead a team of professionals with authority and competence, including facilitation of team motivation, cohesion, shaping workplace culture, and achieving Defence outcomes.
  • Develop and oversee medical staff training processes, quality assurance, and research activities.
  • Supervise staff, including robust staff performance management, and liaison with relevant contractors on workforce development and personnel issues.
  • Exercise professional delegations as outlined in relevant APS and Defence policy, including occupational medical fitness determinations, waiver assessments, reviews of decisions, and funding approvals.
  • Provide quality advice to senior staff, preparation of briefing material, correspondence, and reports on relevant policy, governance, and performance initiatives.
