Job Description

The role of a senior medical advisor supports the chief medical officer by providing subject matter expert advice and ensuring implementation of recruiting medical policies and procedures. This position works with relevant stakeholders to deliver on recruiting objectives outlined in the national defence strategy, defence workforce strategy and the integrated investment plan.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Provide effective leadership, strategic direction and expert medical judgement to fully actualise the medical recruiting aspects of the defence mission.
  • Lead staff with authority and competence, including facilitation of team motivation, cohesion and shaping workplace culture, as well as achieving defence outcomes.
  • Exercise professional delegations as outlined in relevant policy, including occupational medical fitness determinations, waiver assessments and reviews of decisions and funding approvals.
  • Establish and review governance, standards and procedures for defence medical recruiting services operations, including conducting audit and quality assurance activities when required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide quality advice to senior staff, including preparation of briefing material, correspondence and reports on relevant policy, governance and performance initiatives.
  • Establish an effective stakeholder network across joint health command and defence force recruiting in support of recruiting outcomes.
About the Team

The senior medical advisor role works within the directorate of recruiting health services of defence force recruiting and supports the strategic and operational direction of the chief medical officer. The chief medical officer team is comprised of ADF, APS and contracted professionals.
