Work Health and Safety Officer

The position of Work Health and Safety Officer is a crucial role within the Strategic Welfare function, where you will be accountable for performing complex work health and safety work within an integrated workforce. You will have limited direction to maintain well-developed understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements.

As a specialist Work Health and Safety Advisor, you will work within the Brigade Headquarters providing advice to the Commander of 13 Brigade, Headquarters 13 Brigade staff and subordinate units. Your key responsibilities include monitoring compliance with relevant Commonwealth WHS legislation, safety policy and directives, managing the implementation of Defence and Army initiatives and exercising technical control of all safety management within 13 Brigade.

Some of your duties may include conducting quick assessments on training and facilities related incidents, being involved in technical and WHS investigations and audits, and assisting with hazardous substance management requirements. To succeed in this role, you must possess a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills to brief staff at the executive level, and demonstrated experience in work health and safety roles.
