Senior Design Team Manager

We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Team Manager to lead our design team in delivering innovative e-commerce solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the team, including mentoring designers, leading brand initiatives, ensuring quality control of designs, and managing the design team's administration.

The role requires close collaboration with delivery and sales teams to facilitate and grow the company's design offering. As a strategic leader, you will advise clients on their design and UX needs while providing perspective back to stakeholders.

  • Growth Strategy: Support the high-level growth goals and direction of the design team with input from senior leaders.
  • Team Management: Manage, lead, and grow design team members through one-on-one mentoring and supporting individual learning paths.
  • Work Allocation: Facilitate incoming design work and collaborate with your team to ensure it is adequately allocated to relevant team members.
  • Camaraderie and Engagement: Maintain a positive and engaged design team culture.
  • Quality Assurance: Peer review and copy-edit the work of the design team for quality purposes.
  • Strategy and Insights: Contribute to strategy or insights for small-scale to large-scale projects, harnessing your knowledge of design, compelling content, and technology.
  • Collaboration: Work with the sales team and delivery team for prototyping designs, presenting service offerings, or understanding deeper requirements.
  • Client Presentations: Conduct UX audits and presentations for clients when required.
  • Brand Development: Lead the development and maintenance of the company voice, branding, and associated documentation, working closely with senior leadership.
  • Market Research: Research market trends, consumer needs, and the competitive landscape with continuous research, present relevant findings to senior leadership where relevant.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in design, digital, and e-commerce-related roles with clearly demonstrated success in mentoring or team management, strategic planning, and relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • Proven experience in editing and reviewing written and visual work, with very high attention to detail. Ideally qualification in editing or proven examples of English language proficiency with writing and editing.
  • A CX/UI/UX/eCommerce design portfolio demonstrating successful projects from previous roles and experiences.
  • Highly proficient in design software such as: Adobe CC, Figma, Sketch, Jira, and Microsoft Office.
  • Up to date with trends, news, and developments in the design and e-commerce industries.
  • Experience working with clients effectively.
  • Experience managing other designers effectively and mentoring their development.
  • Experience working with senior leaders effectively.
