Climate Adaptation Specialist Role

We are seeking a Climate Adaptation Specialist to support the delivery of our Climate Resilience and Sustainable Strategy. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across all levels of Council to integrate climate adaptation considerations into governance, land use planning, infrastructure development, community services, environmental management, and economic development.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Effectively lead a small team to deliver projects that enhance the City's climate resilience and adaptive capacity.
  • Translate climate data, risk projections, and research into practical adaptation actions for local implementation.
  • Engage stakeholders across council to incorporate climate adaptation into operational planning, business cases, asset management, and investment decisions.
  • Build strong relationships with state and federal government departments to align local adaptation initiatives with regional and national priorities.
  • Secure, manage, and report on internal and external funding streams to ensure adaptation projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in line with strategic priorities.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in climate adaptation and resilience or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in climate-related risks and vulnerability assessments is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a capacity to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Project and program management, including funding and contract oversight.
  • Ability to tailor complex information to diverse audiences to influence and lead change across organisational boundaries.
