Salary: $140,000 - $160,000 per annum, depending on experience

Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our Generative Experience Group. This team is responsible for developing and applying AI that can create every type of design and ingredient on Canva.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy solutions to generate and edit designs, working closely with ML engineers, backend engineers, frontend engineers, designers, and product managers.
  • Stay up-to-date with state-of-the-art advancements in deep learning and generative AI, and apply them to our domain at Canva.
  • Contribute to the engineering direction and strategy for the team.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and effectively advocate for engineering needs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Model initiative and ownership in achieving goals, improving processes, and solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-team collaboration to work on new ideas and improvements.

Requirements:

  • Strong commercial experience in software development, building scalable backend systems.
  • Proficiency in Java or similar object-oriented programming languages.
  • Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
