**Overview:**

We're seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our Generative Experience Group at Canva. As a key member of this team, you'll be working at the forefront of new world-class Design AI technology and products.

**Salary:** $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience.

**About the role:

This is an exciting and emerging problem space with weekly innovations. As a Software Engineer in this role, you'll own critical projects and components across our design generation system, directly impacting experimental features, prototypes, and launching new design generation approaches to users.

**Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy solutions to generate and edit designs, working closely with other ML engineers, backend engineers, frontend engineers, designers, and product managers.
  • Stay on top of state-of-the-art advancements in deep learning and generative AI where they apply to our domain at Canva.
  • Contribute to the engineering direction and strategy for the team, driving innovation and growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improvement and implement change.

**Requirements:

  • Strong commercial experience in a software development environment, building scalable backend systems.
  • Experience or strong interest in design, with a genuine desire or proven experience in this space.
  • Proficiency in Java or another similar object-oriented programming language.
  • Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills, with ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
