Smoking Cessation Specialist Role

Job Description

The role of a Smoking Cessation Specialist at NSW Health involves providing telephone counselling to individuals who smoke and/or vape, as well as their carers and family members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer information and support to clients calling or referred to the service
  • Assess, treat, and counsel clients on smoking and vaping cessation
  • Promote the service through community engagement activities

Essential Requirements:

  • Completed a minimum three-year bachelor's degree qualification in counselling, social work, or psychology
  • Minimum 1-year clinical experience in counselling and registration with the relevant professional body
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills, including clinical documentation and client communication
  • Able to remain calm and deliver clinical services confidently and patiently in a high-pressure environment

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in providing counselling and information in a telephone counselling environment

Work Environment:

Working with diverse population groups and complex health conditions requires flexibility to assist with backfilling shifts at times. The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and outside business hours.

Remuneration Package:

The remuneration package will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
