Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for dedicated and enthusiastic child and adolescent psychiatrists to contribute to the development of the expanding child youth and family mental health stream in our district. The roles are located in the Nepean Adolescent Mental Health Unit (NAMHU), a new statewide adolescent mental health unit.

The unit has 10 beds and is co-located with the Nepean Mental Health Centre at Nepean Hospital, providing essential mental health care to young people aged 12–17 years. This service is supported by a skilled interdisciplinary workforce including lived experience and Aboriginal professionals, in partnership with the Department of Education.

The aim is seamless integration between community and inpatient care. As part of this team, you will provide medical leadership within the interdisciplinary teams, supporting the delivery of mental health assessments and management for the young people, empowering families and care networks, participating in key clinical decisions, supervising registrars and assisting medical student education.

Location and Community

Our district encompasses the Penrith, Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains and Lithgow regions, offering access to outdoor activities, varied dining, entertainment and schooling options.

Practical Arrangements

You may be required to participate in a District-wide CYF-MH consultant after-hours roster. Your role may also involve work in other parts of the Mental Health Service.

Eligibility and Requirements

Prior to commencement, you must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or hold an appropriate work visa. A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required.
