Capital Accounting Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a broad range of asset accounting and reporting services, including capitalisation, depreciation, disposal, useful life assessments, write-offs, and revaluation, to support the Group, departmental, and organisational levels.
  • Support the production of departmental and organisational budgets and forecasts, as well as reviews of actual against budget/forecast on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, profit and loss, and balance sheet reconciliations, monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  • Coordinate weekly and monthly capital finalisation and reporting, journal postings, and capital reviews with management.
  • Effectively communicate bi-weekly reviews of capital incurred, work in progress, and components to key stakeholders.
  • Assist with capital budgeting and forecasting, monthly, quarterly, and annually, and provide asset accounting communication to relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare half-yearly and annually the asset disclosure notes in the annual financial statements for approval by the required deadline.
  • Engage in special projects, including working with Systems & Data teams for Power BI reports and other system/process improvements.

About You:

  • Previous experience in a capital accountant or fixed asset accountant role, with 2-3 years preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the interpretation and application of Australian Accounting Standards, asset principles, and asset recording systems to support the operations of a medium to large service organisation.
  • Proven track record of achieving objectives, with an ability to support management and provide continuous improvement of services.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, including influencing skills and experience in cultivating and sustaining strong business relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage multifaceted financial projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities and a track record in managing financial resources within budget parameters.
  • Experience in financial management systems in a medium to large organisation, with preference for Microsoft Great Plains.
  • Advanced to intermediate Excel skills.
