Technical Manager Role

A summary of the job description is as follows: The Technical Manager will lead a team of engineers to adapt products to automotive and industrial requirements. They will represent Canonical in the industrial and automotive community, standards consortia, and customer/partner meetings.

Job Description:

The technical leader will be responsible for growing, leading, and managing a globally distributed team of engineers. They will work closely with product management, engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders to develop skills through coaching, feedback, and hands-on technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute an engineering roadmap for the automotive team at Canonical.
  • Represent Ubuntu and Canonical in the automotive community, in front of customers, partners, and consortia.
  • Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers and coordinate, guide, and oversee their work.
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices.
  • Help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices.
  • Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with company values.
Requirements:
  • Strong software engineering, Linux, and open source background.
  • Knowledge of automotive and industry standards such as ISO 21434, ISO 26262, SOTIF, IEC 65108, and ideally have led product development initiatives that fulfilled compliance with one or more of the mentioned standards.
  • In-depth knowledge in Linux packages and embedded development.
  • Experience in C/C++ and Python programming.
  • Practical experience in automotive, including functional safety, embedded systems, cloud, and related software trends.
  • Experience leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers.
  • Track record of timely delivery and high-quality software.
  • Loves developing and growing people and has a track record of doing it.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
