**Job Description:**

MAGNT seeks a senior professional to lead its Collection Management program and teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic care and development of significant cultural collections.

The Head of Collections will ensure alignment with Museum priorities and deliver a high standard of collection care and access across all activities. This role is critical in maintaining MAGNT's reputation as a trusted custodian of Australian, Aboriginal, and Southeast Asian Art and Material Culture collections.

This position involves leading an inter-disciplinary team, overseeing digitization projects, reviewing collection storage, and deaccessioning. The ideal candidate is passionate about cultural heritage, experienced in managing complex and diverse collections, and committed to delivering exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for the growth and preservation of cultural collections
  • Lead and manage a team of professionals responsible for collection care and access
  • Oversee digitization projects to increase accessibility and engagement
  • Review and improve collection storage and handling practices
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to advance Museum priorities and goals

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g., museum studies, curatorial practice)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in collection management or a related field
  • Proven track record of leading teams and achieving results in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • A deep understanding of cultural heritage principles and best practices
