Job Title:

Overview

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing mechanical systems for passenger trains. Your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the Rolling Stock Mechanical Design (RSMD) Door and Body Systems (DBS) team within the Engineering & Maintenance division.

Key Responsibilities
  • You will work on designing, developing, and ensuring the quality of mechanical systems for passenger trains.
  • You will collaborate with Principal Engineers, Group Leaders, and other engineers to deliver mechanical and systems design support across the asset lifecycle.
  • You will use modern design tools like CAD, FEA, and fracture mechanics packages to create practical and cost-effective solutions.
  • You will also extend your work to technical investigations, system upgrades, and assisting in the assessment of designs by external vendors.
Requirements
  • You have tertiary qualifications in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • You bring experience in design or maintenance of mechanical systems – ideally in a rail or transport context.
  • You are confident in applying engineering principles to real-world challenges.
  • You thrive in a team that values collaboration, innovation, and high standards of technical integrity.
