As a Submarine Acoustic Warfare Specialist with the Australian Defence Force, you will play a critical role in protecting our nation's maritime interests. Your primary responsibility will be to operate and supervise advanced sonar systems onboard submarines, utilizing your expertise to detect, track, and classify noise sources in the ocean.

This vital role requires extensive training, which you will undergo to develop your skills in tactical recommendations, data analysis, and general seamanship duties. You will work closely with Command to pass on critical information gathered from sonar operations.

Your specific responsibilities will vary depending on the submarine's status. When surfaced, you will participate in control room watch-keeping, lookout, helmsman, first responder roles, anchor party duties, and boat or helicopter transfers. When dived, you will monitor sonar systems and take part in supporting positions such as navigator's assistant, damage control sailor, and survival equipment specialist. When alongside the wharf, you will conduct hull preservation work and engage in tasks like force protection, training exercises, and ceremonial duties.

You will also have the opportunity to perform additional duties, including boat security, firefighting, flood repair, first aid, medical emergency response, ammunitioning, and more. This will enable you to develop a wide range of skills and become highly trained in supporting the submarine team.
