Investigation Role

This is a challenging investigation position where you will lead investigations into the affairs of law practices and legal practitioners.

  • You will be responsible for planning, conducting, leading and reporting on complex investigations.
  • Identify and gather evidence in accordance with evidentiary practice and legislated requirements.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify trends and issues, to inform recommendations on compliance strategies, policies and operational processes.
  • Represent the Law Society and give evidence at hearings of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal as necessary.
  • Develop effective working relationships and manage complex investigations with high-level stakeholders including members of the legal profession, audit and other professionals.
  • Maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate contemporary performance by participating in professional development opportunities and providing mentoring.
  • Model professional and ethical behavior and act in accordance with the Law Society's code of conduct.
  • Travel may be required, including interstate and remote area travel.

The ideal candidate will have relevant tertiary qualifications in commerce, accounting or business, current membership with Chartered Accounts ANZ and/or CPA Australia, demonstrated knowledge of interpreting financial accounting practices and procedures, strong problem-solving and financial analytical skills, preferably in an investigative or law enforcement environment, and well-developed written and verbal skills to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, occupation, and seniority.

Additional requirements include being able to work independently and think critically, strategically, and courageously to deliver customer-focused outcomes, maintaining sound governance through risk management, being open-minded, adaptive, and willing to learn new ideas, set clear goals, behave honestly and trustworthily, treat others fairly, and maintain transparency.
