Job Overview

This role involves providing technical support to real-time earth monitoring data systems that form part of the National Observatory Networks.

Data from these stations are transmitted back to Geoscience Australia and serve as the foundation for earthquake, nuclear testing and geomagnetic monitoring functions.

About the Position

The Technical Support Specialist will be responsible for delivering expert technical setup, installation and advice on instruments, systems and equipment that comprise the observatory monitoring networks.

The successful candidate will also assist in monitoring of network stations and remotely resolve outages from headquarters.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to real-time earth monitoring data systems.
  • Solve complex technical issues across the Observatory Monitoring Networks.
  • Carry out regular site visits for installations, repairs and maintenance of seismic monitoring infrastructure.
  • Perform physically demanding work including in extreme weather conditions.
Requirements
  • A Certificate III in electronics and communications is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in development, construction, operation and maintenance of seismic monitoring systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with low voltage DC, solar and mains power is highly desirable.
  • Experience in communication systems and ICT networking is highly desirable.
