Job Title: Senior Horticultural Leader

Job Overview

The Senior Horticultural Leader oversees the strategic planning and execution of gardening programs, collaborating with various departments to ensure seamless operations.

  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Horticultural Management: Develop annual and triennial plans for gardens development and maintenance, implement comprehensive garden care programs, oversee watering, pest control, pruning, mowing, and arboriculture.
    • Maintenance of Grounds: Maintain external public areas to a high standard of safety and cleanliness, service garden vehicles and equipment, repair and coordinate maintenance of garden and fence structures.
    • Management: Advise senior management on parks and gardens imperatives, support development with funding and sponsorship strategies, manage gardening staff, volunteers, apprentices, and interns, manage external contractors.
    • Public Programs and Marketing: Work with learning and audience engagement to develop programming, contribute to heritage research, represent Heide at events and seminars.
    • Communication and Professional Practice: Oversee apprentices and volunteers, maintain strong communication with facilities manager and executive director.
  • Requirements:
    • Diploma/Degree in horticulture or landscape gardening.
    • Proven management experience with budgets, staff, and safety standards.
    • Extensive knowledge of horticulture in public environments.
  • Benefits:
    • $75,000-$85,000 + 12% super.
