Job Description

We are seeking a Child Development Specialist to join our Intensive Bail Initiative team in Mount Isa. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in supporting the families of young people who have come into contact with the youth justice system.

Your primary responsibility will be to provide high-quality support services to these families, helping them to develop the skills and tools they need to thrive. This will involve working closely with external stakeholders, including government agencies and community organizations, to ensure that our clients receive the best possible outcomes.

In this challenging and rewarding role, you will be required to use your expertise in child development to assess risk and develop comprehensive case management plans. You will also be responsible for coaching and developing colleagues to increase their skill and competency in providing high-quality service delivery.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as social work, psychology or education.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families.
  • Strong understanding of the Youth Justice system, orders and bail obligations.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to coach and develop a team, as well as work effectively in a team.
  • Ability to utilise your skills, knowledge, understanding, and experience working with families that are living with trauma to influence and guide practitioners to ensure safe and ethical practice.
