About the Role

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Area Training Officer to join our team in the Rural Fire Service Queensland. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in coordinating, facilitating, and delivering training to volunteers and brigades across the state.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the coordination, delivery, and evaluation of formal and informal training programs for volunteers, ensuring they are equipped to perform their roles effectively.
  • Conduct training needs assessments to identify gaps in current capabilities and actively seek input from brigades and stakeholders on training requirements.
  • Provide input into the development of the annual training plan for the District, with a focus on volunteers.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities for new brigade volunteers, including inductions, to build brigade operational responsiveness capability.
  • Contribute to training compliance and quality assurance by ensuring training is delivered, assessed, and data entered correctly, adhering to procedural requirements.
  • Attend brigade meetings to provide timely updates and advice on training, and develop strategies to address identified gaps or issues.
  • Assist in conducting training evaluation and assurance activities to support continuous improvement of volunteer training strategies, programs, and curriculum products.
Requirements
  • Meet the mandatory requirements and attributes as outlined in the generic RFSQ Rural Officer Two (RFSO2) role description.
  • Knowledge of, or experience working with volunteers and/or within a volunteer organization.
  • Proven commitment to maintaining bushfire competencies and operating in a team environment.
  • Capacity to participate in out-of-hours shift rosters during disaster operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of the concepts, strategies, and issues associated with managing rural fire services, particularly in a volunteer environment.
  • Ability to provide operational leadership at emergency situations using the AIIMS/IMS methodology.
