
Lead Wellbeing Specialist

In government schools, mental health and wellbeing support is a key priority. The Mental Health Practitioners initiative provides for a suitably qualified mental health professional in all government secondary school campuses and specialist school settings.
As a Mental Health Practitioner, you will collaborate with the Department of Education Regional Mental Health Branch to enhance mental health prevention and promotion activities in the school. Your main functions include:
- Contributing to whole-school health and wellbeing plans to build teaching staff and school leadership capabilities to address student mental health and wellbeing
- Developing and delivering appropriate programs and strategies in the school according to specified school priorities
- Providing early intervention services for students at-risk or experiencing mild to moderate mental health concerns
- Coordinating supports for students with complex needs within and external to the school
This role requires an experienced professional who can carry out duties with autonomy and minimal supervision. You will be responsible for developing and implementing professional support programs within an educational environment, including guidance to other professional staff.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing advice and professional learning to others to build capacity in schools to improve student wellbeing, learning and developmental outcomes
- Planning and implementing evidence-based intervention strategies for students with complex needs
- Working collaboratively with the school to enhance mental health prevention and promotion across the school
- Liaising with other department areas and external service providers as necessary to provide support to students
- Maintaining professional competence and continued professional development
Applicants must be qualified as a psychologist, social worker, mental health nurse, occupational therapist or counsellor.
