About the Role
  • Oversee day-to-day media functions, including press events, interview coordination, and strategic execution.
  • Nurture strong relationships with media partners to drive meaningful coverage of our initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor for key stakeholders—preparing them for media engagements and supporting them with messaging and training.
  • Guide and support our media team, managing match-day broadcast and media responsibilities while expanding AFLW operations.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to identify and share compelling stories, successes, and initiatives with the public.
  • Monitor media coverage, manage sensitive issues discreetly, and report regularly to senior leadership.
  • Foster a high-performance team culture and mentor junior staff and interns.

This role is at the heart of how we connect with fans, partners, and the wider public. You will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure our message is authentic, engaging, and on point.

Requirements
  • Experience in a communications or media role, preferably within elite sport.
  • A deep understanding of AFL media operations and the broader national/local media landscape.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and a calm, proactive approach to managing live, high-stakes media moments.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring experience.
  • The flexibility and resilience to thrive in a role that's anything but 9 to 5.
  • A genuine passion for sport, people, and storytelling.
