Position Overview:
The University of New South Wales is seeking a dedicated Technical Officer (Mechanical) to provide essential technical leadership within the School of Engineering and Technology. This role is crucial for fostering the development of competent graduates who can tackle complex engineering challenges.

Employment Details:
Type: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Duration: Ongoing
Salary: (Level 4) $78,584 - $82,000 + superannuation
(Level 5) $85,000 + superannuation
Location: UNSW Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

Key Responsibilities:
The Technical Officer will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment based on provided specifications.
  • Managing and operating teaching and research facilities effectively, ensuring high standards of safety and compliance.
  • Building collaborative relationships with academic staff and students to enhance educational outcomes.
  • Providing technical support during undergraduate laboratory classes and contributing to the development of practical learning experiences.

Accountabilities:
As a Level 4 Officer, you will:

  • Execute limited design and fabrication tasks under supervision.
  • Support the maintenance of digital manufacturing technologies and assist in developing new components.
  • Engage with diverse stakeholders to create innovative engineering solutions.

As a Level 5 Officer, you will:

  • Oversee the operation of advanced manufacturing technologies and contribute to complex engineering projects.
  • Lead the design and modification of teaching and research components.

Qualifications and Skills:
For Level 4, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • A trade certificate in Fitting and Machining or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience with traditional and digital manufacturing technologies, including CAM software.
  • Strong ability to interpret technical documentation and engineering drawings.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with a diverse range of individuals.

For Level 5, additional qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in CNC machining and CAD software for system design.

Eligibility Requirements:
