The creative landscape of visual effects is constantly evolving, requiring professionals to stay at the forefront of innovation. As a Senior Visual Effects Technical Director (VFX TD), you will be responsible for bringing life to stunning visuals in high-end films.

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced VFX TD to join our team on a short-term contract basis. This role involves creating realistic simulations of natural phenomena and magical effects, using cutting-edge tools such as Maya and Houdini.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create particle, rigid-body, fluid, cloth, fur, and hair simulations or animations.
  • Apply lighting and shaders to produce the final rendered image or pass the simulation on to a Lighting Technical Director.
  • Work with various commercial and proprietary FX tools, including Nuke for compositing.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure shots are delivered to the highest standard.
  • Determine design solutions needed to create effects in partnership with the team.
  • Design and create images, elements, effects, pipelines, tools, and techniques.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • An excellent knowledge of Maya and Houdini.
  • A thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to FX simulation and procedural animation.
  • Extensive experience producing effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam, and explosions.
  • A good understanding of animation and an eye for motion.
  • A familiarity with pipeline issues, especially working between multiple packages.
  • A working knowledge of at least one compositing application (e.g. Nuke) and a solid understanding of the compositing process.

Preferred Qualifications

You may also possess:

  • Knowledge in other simulation packages such as Naiad and RealFlow.
  • Experience with Arnold or other render packages.
  • Programming skills with Python and/or C/C++ along with knowledge of the Houdini HDK and/or Maya API.
