Senior Motion Control Artist

The Senior Motion Control Artist is a key role in our VFX department, responsible for creating accurate motion files that enable seamless interaction between live-action and CGI elements. This requires a deep understanding of camera movements, object tracking, and body tracking techniques.

This position involves managing a team of artists to ensure they have the necessary resources to meet deadlines and quality standards. The successful candidate will be able to assess the time required to complete tracking shots and communicate this effectively to production.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with production teams and lead artists to ensure timely delivery of high-quality work
  • Accurately assessing the time required for tracking shots and communicating this to production
  • Identifying suitable team members for project leads and ensuring they have the necessary skills and experience
  • Carrying out annual appraisals for team members and identifying areas for training and development
  • Ensuring all work produced by the team meets the highest quality standards

Essential skills and qualifications include:

  • Relevant degree or diploma in a field such as film production, visual effects, or computer animation
  • At least 5 years' experience working in a VFX pipeline, with a strong understanding of tracking software and techniques
  • Ability to problem-solve and think creatively
  • Strong knowledge of 3D Equalizer and Maya software
  • Experience working with Linux operating systems
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

Desirable skills and qualifications include:

  • Mel or Python scripting skills
  • Native stereo experience
  • Knowledge of alternative tracking software
