Power Protection Engineer Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Power Protection Engineer. We are seeking a skilled professional to perform engineering tasks with varying levels of complexity, assigned by a Lead Project Engineer or Engineering Manager.

In this role, you will be responsible for performing protective relay calculations and determining appropriate relay set points. You will also work on developing relay setting files using relay vendor software and producing relay coordination compliance reports for applicable NERC-PRC standards.

You will have the opportunity to work independently on tasks and may assist senior engineers on larger projects. Some travel may be required.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Perform protective relay calculations and determine appropriate relay set points
  • Develop relay setting files using relay vendor software
  • Produce relay coordination compliance reports for applicable NERC-PRC standards
  • Provide protective relay construction support
  • Work under the direct supervision of a Senior Engineer or APM
  • Some travel may be required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • Minimum 4 years of experience doing electrical power system analysis, electrical system planning, protective device application, relay settings and/or substation design
  • Familiar with power system analysis software: CAPE, Aspen, ETAP
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, Microsoft Office, and electrical design software
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects
  • Familiarity with Transmission and Distribution industry protection schemes and philosophies
