Overview

The Senior Electrical Power Engineer will help our clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects while serving as Owner's Engineer and/or Advisor. The power generation market is growing, and HDR is seeking a qualified engineer to contribute to design and project execution in the utility scale power and renewable energy industry.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams for power generation design projects, including supporting traditional Owner's Engineering roles.
• Mentor young engineers, manage client relationships, and lead marketing activities such as proposal technical writing, fee builds, and work breakdown structure development in response to RFPs.
• Contribute to power generation and distribution design, protection and motor control design, power system studies, and balance of plant designs (e.g., raceway, lighting, grounding).
• Draft engineering design and equipment specifications; provide design and engineer of record work for power plant systems.
• Collaborate with Project Manager and Project Controller on project reviews as needed and direct activities of other engineering professionals.
• Travel limited to less than 10% for client meetings, vendor engagements, and project site visits.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with an Electrical Power emphasis.
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems Engineering with an Electrical Power emphasis.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in electrical power generation design.
• Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.
• Experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm is desired.
• Excellent communication, written and organizational skills; strong leadership with the ability to work independently or as a lead on multi-discipline teams.
• Extensive knowledge of three-phase electrical power, protection and control design and settings development, system grounding, lighting and grounding design, instrumentation and control, and life safety systems.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering
• Minimum 10 years of experience
• Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license
• Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit)

The compensation range depends on skills, experience, education, and location. The stated benefits apply to full-time regular positions; temporary and part-time roles may have limited benefits. The targeted salary range for this position, based on experience and location, is $108,661 - $204,250 with regional variations.
