About the Company

As a key member of Brook Recruitment's team, you'll have the opportunity to work with one of Australia's most prominent property developers. This exciting venture involves launching into a new Build-to-Rent project. You'll be part of a new journey and take ownership of the first asset in a growing portfolio.

About the Role

The Property Accountant will be instrumental in establishing financial systems and procedures across the project and corporate joint venture level. As the first finance team member to join this asset, you'll be involved in the go-live of property management and CRM software, implementation of Chart of Accounts, and introducing and standardising reporting templates and finance processes and procedures across the team.

This role offers significant growth opportunities within the business as the portfolio expands, and as you prove your capabilities and excel in this key position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial and project accounting, P&L management, budgeting, and bank account management at an asset level
  • Manage Accounts Payable and Receivable and reconciliations
  • Prepare month-end reporting, including all necessary general ledger reconciliations
  • Responsible for the accurate monthly lodgement of Business Activity Statements (BAS) and assist with compliance of regulatory and financier accounting requirements
  • Assist with portfolio reporting to the board
  • Review leases, targeted rents, building efficiency, insurance, and general commercial reviews of assets and portfolio
  • Drive the go-live of Yardi, implement Chart of Accounts, standardise reporting templates, and finance processes and procedures across the business

Skills and Experience

  • CPA or CA qualification or working towards
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, with exposure to property management desirable
  • Understanding or desire to grow knowledge of general tax implications of Build-to-Rent, including GST and land tax
  • Ambitious, self-motivated, and able to evolve and grow with the business
  • Clear and articulate communication skills, coupled with the ability to distil complex financial information succinctly
