Underground Mine Mechanical Engineer

This role is a key part of the operational team that supports underground operations.

The team installs and maintains critical mechanical infrastructure, including air, water, pumping, and ventilation systems, as well as managing underground diamond drilling.

A pivotal role in supporting the transition to Cemented Paste Fill (CPF) in the next fiscal year is expected from the Mine Services Engineer.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead a culture of care and act as a visible safety leader for the team and stakeholders.
  • Analyse operational data using BHP Operating System tools to drive departmental capability.
  • Develop and implement mechanical improvement projects from planning through to execution and closeout.
  • Support leadership in managing risk and understanding risk appetite across mechanical systems.
  • Conduct routine financial analysis and reporting.
About You
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline are essential.
  • Experience in heavy industry, mining, or underground operations is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical infrastructure such as compressed air systems, water reticulation, pumping stations, barricades, backfill reticulation, and ventilation systems is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in PowerBI for data consolidation and analysis.
  • Strong customer service mindset and ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the business.
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Requirements: Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Experience in heavy industry, mining, or underground operations is an advantage.

Preferred Skills: Strong understanding of mechanical infrastructure, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and advanced skills in PowerBI.

Work Environment: Fast-paced, cross-functional environment with a strong focus on safety and collaboration.
