Peer Support Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and energetic Peer Support Worker who has a lived experience of homelessness and possesses a passion for person-centred care, justice, and health equity. The Peer Support Specialist will draw upon their own personal lived experience of homelessness and recovery to provide authentic engagement and support for clients, assisting them to access health services of their choice.
The Peer Support Specialist will provide individual and systemic advocacy, and have the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to assist with improving health and wellbeing outcomes for people experiencing homelessness.
The role involves providing strengths-based, culturally safe, trauma-informed care, and supporting clients to navigate the various health service systems. The Peer Support Specialist will also contribute their lived experience expertise to service planning and development of policies and procedures, enhancing their effectiveness and improving health outcomes for people and communities experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide peer-led support to clients, utilising a strength-based, trauma-informed framework
- Support clients to navigate health service systems and access services of their choice
- Contribute lived experience expertise to service planning and development
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to improve health outcomes
- Provide individual and systemic advocacy for clients
Requirements:
- Lived experience of homelessness
- Personal integrity and commitment to the values of St Vincent's Health Australia
- Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of homelessness on health and wellbeing
- Ability to provide strengths-based, culturally safe, trauma-informed care
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- Current driver's licence
