About the Role

The Senior First Nations Officer is a senior position within the City's First Nations service stream, reporting to the First Nations Lead. This role is responsible for managing First Nations engagement for City projects and land use planning to incorporate interests and support the City's First Nations Lead in maintaining and improving relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island customers, communities, and stakeholders through increased partnerships and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage First Nations engagement for City projects and land use planning to incorporate interests
  • Support the City's First Nations Lead in maintaining and improving relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island customers, communities, and stakeholders
  • Provide specialist advice and support to ensure cultural awareness and cultural considerations are being integrated into City project planning, policy, and procurement frameworks
  • Collaborate with cross-directorate teams to improve First Nations inclusivity and participation and provide greater value outcomes to the community
Requirements
  • At least 3+ years First Nations engagement experience at a senior professional level
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Passionate, enthusiastic, and motivated to deliver First Nations outcomes for the City and the community
  • Highly developed First Nations engagement skills and experience
  • Strong understanding and working experience applying First Nations engagement policy and best practice principles
  • Experience designing for Country (highly desirable)
  • Experience integrating First Nations interests into land use planning matters, including local government planning schemes and relevant Queensland legislation (highly desirable)
  • Experience managing First Nations engagement in a government context, particularly within Queensland (highly desirable)
  • Professional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with conflict management and resolution practices
  • Ability to critically analyse and investigate First Nations-related issues by sourcing appropriate information and seek opportunities to innovate
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team, and foster good relationships with other team members
  • Ability to project manage multiple complex tasks and prioritise in a dynamic work environment
  • Value and seek to achieve excellence in service delivery to customers (internal and external)
  • Proficient in technology and able to adapt to new systems and processes
  • Hold a 'Class C' driver's licence
