Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding role for a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team at Queensland Health. As a Cytogenetics Specialist, you will be responsible for providing high-level scientific advice, training, and management in Cytogenetics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scientific Expertise: Utilize your advanced knowledge and scientific skills to exercise independent scientific judgment in problem-solving, providing high-level advice, training, and scientific management in Cytogenetics.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Work collaboratively as a team member to produce effective work output and quality, building and maintaining effective professional relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Utilize interpersonal skills, client focus, and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Leadership and Management: Assist with the performance and operation of one or more work groups, contributing to the quality of clinical practice within Cytogenetics.
  • Quality and Accreditation: Ensure that the Cytogenetics laboratory complies with all relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards to meet NATA/ISO/TGA accreditation/certification requirements.
  • Training and Development: Train staff, contribute to continuous improvement and development activities within Cytogenetics.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: The successful applicant must hold at least a relevant tertiary degree qualification (or equivalent) applicable to Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Higher Qualification: Possession of higher qualification in Genomics (MHGSA, MSc) or equivalent qualification is an advantage.
  • Registration and Certification: Appointment to this position requires proof of qualifications. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
