Legal Officer Job Description

This is a critical role within our organization, serving as a key component of our strategic litigation team.

We collaborate closely with our officials and members to provide insightful research and legal expertise that helps secure better pay, conditions, and workplace rights.

As a lead legal strategist, you will develop and pursue impactful cases that resolve disputes and shape the future direction of workers' rights in Australia.

This role offers a unique opportunity to be more than a lawyer. You'll have the chance to become a key thinker and leader within our movement, crafting a legal agenda for us and driving progressive reforms from the ground up.

  • Advocate in contested hearings and arbitrations in industrial tribunals.
  • Instruct counsel, working closely with them to prepare and execute legal strategies.
  • Appear in small claims matters within relevant courts and in preliminary court hearings for larger matters.
  • Prepare submissions and advocate for our position in government and Fair Work Commission reviews, consultations, and enquiries.
