Our dedicated team of researchers, clinicians, and support staff is focused on enhancing the respiratory and sleep health of Australians. The Woolcock Institute stands as a premier institution in respiratory and sleep research worldwide.
The Sleep and Circadian Research Group, the largest within the Institute, is at the forefront of research, striving to advance the understanding of sleep biology and the prevention and treatment of sleep disorders.
We are looking to expand our team by appointing an exceptional Lead Sleep Research Scientist for a fixed-term contract. There may be opportunities for permanent roles following the initial contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the sleep research team on the design and planning of research studies.
- Ensure the technical accuracy and quality of polysomnographic recordings related to research.
- Provide training in sleep technology for team members, including the development and assessment of training programs.
- Facilitate the implementation of research protocols in coordination with sleep researchers and laboratory management.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a robust quality assurance program, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards.
- Oversee the upkeep and documentation of sleep research equipment.
- Offer technical expertise and leadership within our multidisciplinary research team.
Essential Criteria
- A minimum of three years' experience in a clinical or research sleep environment.
- Current certification in sleep science or clinical physiology (e.g., RPSGT, ACCP, ANZSSA Certification in Sleep Science).
- Proven leadership capabilities, with experience in managing teams and focusing on operational excellence.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in various sleep physiological measurements.
- Strong understanding of scientific equipment and quality assurance processes.
- Technical proficiency in conducting diagnostic and treatment polysomnography.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Demonstrated comprehension of research methodologies.
Desirable Criteria
- Technical expertise in high-density electroencephalography (EEG).
- Experience in EEG signal processing and quantitative analysis, including programming skills in MATLAB and Python.
- Possession of a PhD or a Master's degree by research.
