About the Role

The Head of Special Education Services is a key position that involves leading a large team of inclusion support staff in delivering high-quality educational outcomes for students with disabilities.

This role requires strong leadership skills, as well as the ability to foster positive relationships between students, teachers, and stakeholders. The successful applicant will be responsible for driving the whole-school vision for inclusive support practices and excellence in academic outcomes for students with disability.

The Head of Special Education Services will also be responsible for managing human, financial, facilities, and curriculum resources to achieve goals. This includes embedding socially just practices in daily school life, setting high standards for student and staff performance, and pursuing ongoing professional development.

  • Foster educational leadership and participate in delivering the vision of State Schools Division
  • Develop the quality of teaching and learning
  • Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community, and stakeholders

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the school special education unit or special education developmental unit teachers, students, and stakeholders to develop, articulate, and commit to a shared educational vision focused on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  2. Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  3. Pursue ongoing professional development.
  4. Form partnerships with parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
  5. Understand the legislation and policies that impact schooling, especially in relation to students with disability.
