The Role

Apply your expertise in assessment and biopsychosocial approaches, implementing practical strategies to prevent, minimise or respond to changes in behaviour related to dementia.

This fixed-term contract provides a unique opportunity for development and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  1. Support families, caregivers and clinical staff to understand the impact of dementia on each individual, fostering empathy and informed care.
  2. Equip carers and clinicians with the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to behaviour changes through coaching, development of resources and behaviour support planning.
  3. Provide recommendations that are relationship-centred and informed by evidence-based best practice, promoting quality of life for people living with dementia.
  4. Develop contextualised reports that drive change on the ground, improving the lives of individuals affected by dementia.
  5. Undertake holistic assessments to understand the experience of the person and their care network.
  6. Work in partnership with Dementia Support Australia to build capability across the home and aged care sectors.
  7. Contribute to research, projects and programs, driving innovation and meeting the evolving needs of the sector.

Requirements

  • Expertise in supporting people living with dementia, with a focus on relationship-centred care.
  • Experience in Australian residential aged care and community aged care, with a strong understanding of local service systems.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to share knowledge and facilitate change at all levels.
  • High-level problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different audiences and contexts.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • A current Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel, with a flexible approach to work arrangements.
  • Empathy and patience, with a commitment to delivering compassionate care.
  • Relevant qualification in Allied Health, Nursing, Aged Care or Mental Health is essential, with a strong foundation in dementia care principles.
