**Mental Health Leader Position Summary:**

The Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System highlighted opportunities for primary schools to identify children with mental health and wellbeing challenges, referring them to treatment, care and support.

This role is part of the expansion of the Mental Health in Primary Schools initiative to every government and low-fee non-government primary school in Victoria.

The initiative aims to improve students' mental health and wellbeing needs by employing a qualified teacher as a Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader.

**Responsibilities and Key Outcomes:**

  • Promote a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing among students, staff, and families.
  • Support teachers and school staff to develop their capacity to embed evidence-based mental health strategies, interventions, and programs.
  • Collaborate with school staff to inform, influence, and provide input into teaching and learning relating to mental health and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to:

  • Inform and influence the work of others involved in the engagement, mental health, wellbeing, or learning of children and young people.
  • Input into the development, implementation, and evaluation of processes and strategies relating to mental health, wellbeing, or learning.

  • Strong knowledge of mental health and wellbeing principles, strategies, and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
