Primary Care Specialist Role

Job Overview:

This position integrates healthcare and addiction medicine expertise to enhance patient outcomes.

The ideal candidate will split time between the Emergency Department on weekends and the Department of Addiction Medicine outpatient clinics on weekdays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist AOD coverage in the Emergency Department and DoAM Consultation and Liaison services across the hospital.
  • Develop linkages among SVHM departments providing services to clients with AOD issues.
  • Implement the AOD screening tool in ED and facilitate referrals to relevant community-based services.
  • Offer AOD education and training within the emergency department.
  • Coordinate access to and follow-up for clients receiving care under the Severe Substance Dependent Treatment Act (SSDTA).

Requirements:

  • Qualification as a Nurse Practitioner with APHRA endorsement and registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria.
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience, preferably in the AOD or related sector.
  • Experience in Addiction Medicine and/or related fields.
  • Working knowledge of the SSDTA and Victorian AOD service sector.
