About the Role

The National Health Information Management Manager provides strategic leadership and management of health information services, health information systems, and clinical data governance across our national network. This role is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and managing health information services and systems, including quality, integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of electronic and paper medical records, clinical coding, grouping, and analysis of clinical information for billing and health fund negotiations, quality, and research purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with clinical leaders and other relevant personnel to plan, develop, implement, manage, and administer health information services.
  • Oversee medical records departments to ensure appropriate storage, retrieval, and destruction of all written and electronic medical records in accordance with current policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate quality improvement activities to ensure data integrity of the medical record (both in written and electronic formats) and clinical coding.
  • Analyze clinical data for billing, quality, and research purposes, data submission to external parties, and health fund contract negotiations.
  • Oversee HIM staff to ensure timely transfer of relevant activity data for all Icon sites through data submissions to internal and external third parties, using a secure method of transfer.
  • Assess work regularly to ensure continuous improvement in clinical coding and collection of quality health data.
  • Oversee HIM staff to ensure design, effectiveness, and distribution of medical record and other relevant clinical forms, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards (e.g., AS2828) and statutory requirements.
  • Oversee HIM staff to ensure timely and legally compliant release of information requests under various relevant Acts and Subpoenas, third-party requests, and public/patient information requests.
  • Facilitate recruitment, selection, and training of all HIM and medical typist staff.
  • Conduct performance reviews and facilitate the development of all direct reports.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Health Science (Health Information Management) or equivalent/similar.
  • Eligibility for membership to HIMAA.
  • Previous Health Information Management experience.
  • Auditing experience and spreadsheet skills.
  • Post-graduate qualifications in Education/Vocational Training desired.
