About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Department Champion to join our team at Bernardi Group. As a key member of our supermarket team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day operations of our grocery department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Visual Presentation and Store Standards: Ensure high standards of visual presentation and store standards to maximize sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Promotions and Marketing Execution: Execute promotions and marketing plans to drive sales and increase customer engagement.
  • Inventory Management: Manage inventory levels, including stocktaking and ordering, to ensure optimal stock levels and minimize waste.
  • Customer Service: Provide outstanding customer service standards to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Quality and Safety: Ensure quality and safety duties, including receiving, inspecting, and storing of product, while maintaining date and rotation of products.
  • Profit and Loss Management: Assist in managing profit and loss, including sales, gross profit, and shrinkage budgets/targets.
  • Personnel Cost Management: Assist in managing personnel costs, including rostering and scheduling.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead and develop your team, including performance management, training, and development.
  • Safety and Compliance: Assist in ensuring safety and compliance, including participation in department audits.
  • Accuracy of Purchase Orders and Invoices: Ensure accuracy of purchase orders and invoices, including placing of claims.
  • Company Procedures and Policies: Be aware of and follow all company procedures and policies.
Requirements
  • Well-presented and professional: Possess excellent communication skills and an extrovert persona.
  • Customer service focused: Demonstrate a customer service-focused approach to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Understanding of supermarket best practice: Have a good understanding of supermarket best practice and procedures.

Desired Qualifications and Skills
  • Retail Management Certificates or retail experience: Possess retail management certificates or have relevant retail experience.
  • Exposure to retail grocery department: Have exposure to retail grocery departments and a good understanding of supermarket operations.
  • Purchasing, ranging, and merchandising skills: Possess some knowledge of purchasing, ranging, and merchandising of departments to drive sales.
  • Management of wages, gross profit, and waste control: Have some knowledge of managing wages, gross profit, and waste control.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Demonstrate excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Leadership and coaching skills: Demonstrate the ability to lead, manage, and coach team members.
  • Organizational and execution skills: Demonstrate the ability to organize and execute given routines, task lists, standards, and processes.
  • Intermediate computer skills: Possess intermediate computer skills.
