About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our Engineering Services division in Melbourne. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assembling and maintaining complex mechanical systems, performing machining and fabrication tasks, and providing technical expertise to support the development of new products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assembly and Maintenance: Assemble fabricated and manufactured parts into products, and assemble sub-assemblies to produce machines and equipment.
  • Machining and Fabrication: Perform machining (manual and CNC machines), fabrication, and welding as required for standard and non-standard production.
  • Integration and Testing: Integrate trial assemblies to platforms, and perform mechanical diagnostics and fault finding during assembly.
  • Calibration and Repair: Conduct calibration, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of QinetiQ products and assemblies.
  • Technical Support: Provide advice and guidance to professional engineers and designers, positively influencing designs and projects.
  • Quality Assurance: Support QA of material and sub-assemblies (inwards and outwards), and perform function and end of line checks and tests.
  • Product Development: Provide input into new product development and installation guides, and operating and maintenance documentation.
Requirements
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in a similar role, with a strong background in mechanical assembly and maintenance.
  • Qualifications: Trades qualification as Fitter & Turner/Toolmaker or Cert-IV in engineering or equivalent.
  • Skills: Proven experience in safe maintenance and operation of industrial machinery, including lathes, mills, and brake press. Experience interpreting and working with assembly and/or engineering drawings.
  • Personal Qualities: Superior attention to detail, with complex problem-solving and analytical skills, and a positive can-do attitude.
  • Customer Focus: Ability to work in a changing environment, both forward on customer test/range environments and within a workshop environment, with a strong customer focus and a drive to achieve agreed targets.
