As a Mechanical Technician, your primary responsibilities will encompass:

  • Assembling manufactured components into finished products and constructing sub-assemblies for machinery and equipment.
  • Executing machining tasks (both manual and CNC), fabrication, and welding as necessary for both standard and custom production.
  • Integrating trial assemblies onto platforms.
  • Conducting mechanical diagnostics and troubleshooting during the assembly process.
  • Performing calibration, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of QinetiQ products and assemblies.
  • Offering insights and guidance to engineers and designers, positively impacting designs and projects.
  • Supporting quality assurance of materials and sub-assemblies (incoming and outgoing).
  • Carrying out functional and end-of-line inspections and tests.
  • Contributing to new product development and installation documentation.
  • Assisting in the creation of operating and maintenance manuals.

To excel in the position of Mechanical Technician, you should possess proven experience, knowledge, and skills in the following areas:

  • Prior experience in a comparable role.
  • A trades qualification as a Fitter & Turner/Toolmaker or a Cert-IV in engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience in the safe maintenance and operation of industrial machinery, including lathes, mills, and brake presses.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and working with assembly and/or engineering schematics.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, coupled with strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities, along with a proactive attitude.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic environment, both in customer testing/range settings and within a workshop context.
  • A strong customer-centric approach and a commitment to achieving set objectives.
  • Experience operating a waterjet machine (preferred but not mandatory).
