Nurse Specialist

Mater Misericordiae Ltd is seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Specialist - Refugee Health to join their team on a permanent part-time basis, working 16 hours per week.
The successful candidate will provide specialized nursing assessments, immunization services, care coordination, health advocacy, and health literacy to individuals arriving in Brisbane under the Humanitarian Settlement Program in various settings, including general practices across Brisbane North and South, the Mater Hospital Brisbane, and home environments.
About the Role:
The Nurse Specialist will be responsible for providing additional leadership and advanced clinical competency, utilizing their extensive experience to:
- Provide mentorship and guidance to support the professional growth of less-experienced nursing team members;
- Support the Nurse Unit Manager in activities designed to drive continuous quality improvement and assist with skill development;
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
About You:
- You are a current AHPRA registered nurse (no restrictions) with a strong background in refugee health or a related specialist field;
- You hold a valid open driver's license and are able to travel to work sites across Brisbane North and South;
- You possess an Immunisation Program Nurse qualification or are currently enrolled in a course and have evidence of up-to-date continuing professional development in immunization;
- A postgraduate qualification in a related discipline is highly desired;
- You have a minimum of 3 years' clinical experience in a relevant specialist nursing field: refugee health/primary care/rehabilitation/disability/paediatrics/geriatrics/chronic disease;
- Prior experience in primary care and training in triage is highly regarded;
- You demonstrate advanced written and verbal communication skills, including experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds, engaging interpreters in a clinical setting, and liaising with various stakeholders at different levels.
