Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Liaison Specialist

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Hospital Liaison Officers provide vital assistance and support to patients and their families in Metro South Facilities during their hospitalisation and subsequent follow-up treatment. This role requires a collaborative approach with Queensland Health multidisciplinary teams across Metro South facilities to ensure that appropriate, culturally sensitive services contribute to the improved health and well-being status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake 'cultural assessment/risk screening' to identify patient needs and optimise the patient's recovery/outcomes on discharge from the acute care setting.
Advocate for patients when they articulate a lack of understanding of their healthcare and ensure clinicians communicate in a way the patient understands.
Advocate for appropriate service delivery for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people, their families/extended families and staff, and identify opportunities for improvement.
