Unit Receptionist

The Unit Receptionist role is a dynamic position that requires excellent communication skills and the ability to multitask in a busy environment.

  • Meet and greet visitors, supporting the multi-disciplinary team with patient admissions and discharging.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.

The primary duties include:

  • Participate in handover between shifts.
  • Coordinate telephone calls and messages promptly and professionally.
  • Assist patients, visitors, and general public with enquiries and directions.
  • Receive and create pre-admission forms, checking health insurance details and notifying patients of any extra charges they may incur.
  • Admit new admissions for the day.
  • Distribute and coordinate ingoing and ongoing mail and faxes.
  • Photocopying and other duties as required.
  • Coordinate with the Manager or Hospital Coordinator of any problems encountered while on duty.
  • Maintain cordial relations with patients, family, all ancillary staff, and other members of the department.
  • Work with doctors and nurses, providing assistance with any administrative tasks they may need.

Requirements:

  • Superior communication skills with the ability to relate to hospital staff, patients, families, and medical staff.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritise and multitask a busy and varied workload with experience in the healthcare industry highly regarded.
